Since the founding in 2020, Live it up, Las Palmas! has grown into the largest free platform for digital nomads, expats, immigrants, remote workers, and local professionals in Gran Canaria. Our Slack community has thrived thanks to passionate individuals like you who have shared their expertise and experiences. In approximately three years, we grew to over 10.000 members!

However, building and maintaining this community has been and is still an almost full-time job for me. Despite the lack of financial reward, I’ve dedicated countless hours to building and nurturing this amazing space. To sustain our community’s growth and ensure its continued success, I need to make some necessary changes.

That is why I have now introduced a nominal monthly fee for Slack members with commercial motives. I believe the newly introduced monthly fee is well worth it and represents only a small investment for the immense value you receive; direct access to all digital nomads and remote workers on the island (plus a lot of immigrants, expats, locals and holidaymakers), on a trusted platform. This fee will help cover the time and energy invested in managing the community. If you regularly share paid events, workshops, services, accommodation, or promote your company within our Slack channels, your account falls under this category.

To facilitate this transition smoothly, I encourage you to convert your account. If your account remains unchanged after that date, it will be disabled and your previous commercial posts will be deleted from Slack. You can still sign up later via https://www.launchpass.com/liveitup-laspalmas/vendors, but at a higher price.

Engaging in any attempt to circumvent fees by (for example, but not limited to) registering under a different email address is strictly prohibited. Such actions are considered a violation of our terms of service and will result in a permanent ban from our platform.

What Posts Are Considered Commercial?

In our community, a commercial post refers to any content shared with the intention of promoting paid services or events. This includes (but is not limited to) advertisements for (paid) events and activities, workshops, business promotions, and similar activities. To maintain the quality of our community space, such posts now require a fee.

This Decision Chart below will help you determine whether your post is considered commercial or not. Below, you’ll also find a few examples.

I’m a coach/personal trainer/teacher/co-working and want to share a free (group) lesson, for people to try my services or introduce people to my brand/company.

Since your end-goal is to get paying customers, this is seen as having commercial motives. You need to sign up as a Vendor for frequent promotions, or pay a one-off fee for a single post (which will stay visible for 30 days).

I’m organizing a BIG event for the community and it’s free entrance for everyone!

If the guests don’t pay an entrance fee, the venue is most likely giving you a commission on the revenue that night. This is seen as having commercial motives. You need to sign up as a Vendor for frequent promotions, or pay a one-off fee for a single post (which will stay visible for 30 days).

One-Off Promotions

To participate in a one-time promotion, there’s no need for a Vendor account. Just process your payment of €6,90 through this link: https://buy.stripe.com/6oE17oawQbyf46s145, then message the Founder in DM for confirmation. Once confirmed, you’ll get the green light to post. Remember, payment first, then DM us your payment-linked email, and post only after you’ve got our go-ahead!

I sincerely hope that companies and individuals who have benefited from our community (and enjoyed free access for over three years) will choose to opt for Vendor Accounts. The alternative is clear: either all members must start paying a monthly fee or there won’t be a “Live it up, Las Palmas!” in 2025.

Thank you for your understanding and your continued support!

Members with a non-commercial motive who also would like to contribute, can make a donation (one-off or recurring) via https://www.buymeacoffee.com/nelleke.
