Profile and Communication
- Profile Information: It’s mandatory to use your real name and upload a recognizable photo of your face. Let’s connect on a personal level.
- Introductions: New members are encouraged to introduce themselves in #introduction to foster a sense of community. You’ll see it also makes it much easier to find people with similar interests.
- Stay on Topic: Keep discussions relevant to the channel’s theme to maintain meaningful conversations.
- Positive Engagement: Contribute positively with constructive feedback and support. Negative behavior will not be tolerated.
- Value Sharing: Aim to provide value through insightful content, useful resources, or relevant discussions.
Language and Content
- Language Use: All posts should be in English, except for the #language-exchanges-lessons-events channel, where all languages are welcome.
- Long Posts: If your post is lengthy (more than one mobile screen), provide a summary and post additional details/photos in the thread for clarity.
Posting Guidelines
- No Duplication: Posting duplicate messages across channels is not allowed. Duplicate posts will be promptly removed to keep things organized. This includes sharing your message in a second channel or rewriting it to make it look like a different post.
- Channel Relevance: Use the appropriate channels for your messages. The #when-no-other-channel-fits-your-post channel is only for content that doesn’t fit elsewhere. With over 25 channels, there’s a real chance there is a dedicated channel for your post.
- Advertising Accomodation: All property listings must include photos of the property and its price. If an exact price isn’t available due to (for example) long-term discounts, please provide an indicative range. This policy is in place to ensure transparency and prevent wasting our community members’ time by providing them with accurate and helpful information.
- Local Focus: Only events/posts related to Gran Canaria are allowed to maintain the relevance of our community. If you want to share something that’s not connected to Gran Canaria, use #the-rest-of-the-world.
- Surveys and Questionnaires: Avoid posting surveys or questionnaires unless you’ve received permission from the admin through a private message.
- Avoid Controversy: Refrain from engaging in political, religious, or controversial discussions that might disrupt the positive atmosphere.
- Respectful Communication: Ensure all communication is respectful. Hate speech or offensive language will not be tolerated.
Communication Techniques
- Threaded Replies: When commenting on a post, use the reply thread feature to keep conversations organized. Avoid using the option “Also send to channel” unless it’s absolutely relevant.
- Message Pinning: Please do not unpin messages. Use the “Add to saved items” option to keep track of important posts.
- Mindful Mentions: Use @mentions wisely, to ensure notifications are relevant and valuable.
Promotional Content
- Commercial Posts: Commercial (cold acquisition) posts are allowed once every two weeks to maintain a balance between community and promotion.
- No Promotional Spam: Avoid excessive self-promotion or repetitive messages.
- Trademark Use: Live It Up, Las Palmas! is a registered trademark, and its usage is protected by law. To maintain the integrity of the trademark and prevent misuse, we kindly ask all members to refrain from using it for personal gain, promotional purposes, or any activities that might infringe upon its rights.
- Collaborations: If you want to collaborate with Live it up, Las Palmas! reach out to the admin or via the contact form. We are always open to work together to make our community a better place for locals, local companies and our community members.
Event Management
- Event Announcements: Weekly events can be announced only once per week to prevent overwhelming the community.
- Event Updates: Keep event-related posts updated with any changes, cancellations, or additional details. Don’t make members show up to a cancelled event.
Consequences of Violation
- Consequences of Rule Violation: Breaking the rules will result in a warning. Repeated violations may lead to a community ban.
- Reporting Concerns: Report inappropriate content or behavior to the admin for prompt action. This includes both online and offline behavior.
These community rules have been developed over time, shaped by our collective experiences and valuable input from members like you. As our community evolves, these guidelines might change to better serve our goals and ensure a positive environment for everyone. Any new rules will be announced on Slack and promptly added here. The community administrator retains the right to remove any member who disregards these guidelines or engages in behavior that disrupts the community’s well-being.
