Local Job Boards in Gran Canaria: Where to Look and What You Need to Work Legally

Looking for a job in Gran Canaria can feel a bit like trying to catch the last guagua on a Sunday night. Possible, but easier when you know exactly where to go. Here’s a clear, friendly guide to the main job boards locals actually use, plus the essential paperwork you’ll need before anyone can hire you.

💼 The Main Job Boards Used in Gran Canaria

🖥️ InfoJobs

Still the most widely used job platform in Spain. Ideal for hospitality, retail, office roles, and long-term positions. Set up alerts because applications move fast, especially in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. https://www.infojobs.net/

📱 Indeed

Great for both local listings and international or remote opportunities. Very active on the island, and an easy place to upload your CV and apply with one click.

🛒 Milanuncios

Spain’s classic online notice board. You’ll find everything from hospitality and cleaning work to odd jobs and part-time roles. Not the most elegant website, but very practical.

🏛️ Servicio Canario de Empleo (SCE)

This is the official Canary Islands government job portal:
https://www3.gobiernodecanarias.org/empleo/portal/web/sce (if the link doesn’t work, look for Servicio Canario de Empleo (SCE) in Google).

Here you’ll find public-sector listings, official training courses, and support services for job seekers. It’s known for being slow and bureaucratic, but it’s still an important resource.

💬 LinkedIn

Surprisingly strong in Gran Canaria. Ideal for marketing, tech, sales, finance and anything remote-friendly. Many companies recruit exclusively here.

🍹 Hospitality & Tourism Platforms

Perfect if you’re job hunting in hotels, bars or restaurants:

🏄 Community & Coworking Boards

Some opportunities appear on community notice boards, coworkings, or online groups. These are great for small businesses hiring quickly, but always confirm contracts in writing before accepting anything.

🔧 Other Places Locals Actually Look

These aren’t traditional job boards, but they’re heavily used on the island:

  • Walking into businesses with a printed CV (yes, still very normal here)
  • WhatsApp job groups, especially in hospitality
  • Facebook Marketplace “Jobs” section
  • Facebook groups like “Jobs in Gran Canaria”

📄 What You Need to Work Legally in Gran Canaria

Before any employer can hire you, you must have the correct paperwork. Here’s the quick rundown.

1️⃣ NIE (Foreigner Identification Number)

This is the number every foreigner needs to exist in the Spanish system. Without it, no contract can start.

2️⃣ Social Security Number

Your employer uses this to register you. You can request it online or at a Tesorería de la Seguridad Social.

3️⃣ Legal Right to Work

This depends on your nationality:

  • EU/EEA/Swiss citizens:
You have the automatic right to work. If staying longer than 90 days, register as a resident and get the green certificate.
  • Non-EU citizens:
You must have a work permit or residency that includes the right to work. Tourist visas do not allow employment.

4️⃣ Spanish Bank Account

Necessary for receiving your salary through SEPA transfers.

5️⃣ Updated CV in Spanish

Even if the job is English-speaking, a Spanish CV makes life easier.

6️⃣ Hospitality Extras

If you want to work in cafés, restaurants or hotels, employers may ask for:

  • A food-handling certificate
  • Basic Spanish skills, depending on the area

🗣️ Do You Need Spanish?

It depends:

  • Hospitality: Often yes, at least basic.
  • Hotels: English sometimes enough, especially in the south.
  • Tech/remote roles: Usually English-first.
  • Local businesses: Expect to speak Spanish.

📌 Final Tips for Your Job Hunt

  • Start applying before you arrive if possible.
  • Bring printed CVs — still very effective here.
  • Respond quickly when employers contact you.
  • Don’t be discouraged by slow replies… welcome to Spain.

Whether you’re looking for a beach bar job, a tech role, or something in between, these job boards and tips will get you off to a strong start. Suerte with the search!

A least half of the appeal of Las Palmas for remote workers and digital nomads is rooted in this community. It’s the best I’ve seen so far in terms of how well it is organised, structured and nurtured. It offers excellent opportunities to meet new people and explore the island.
