Ultimate Frisbee, commonly known as just Ultimate, is a team sport played with a flying disc, also known as a frisbee. It is a non-contact sport, which means players cannot physically obstruct, bump or tackle each other, but players are allowed to contest each other’s catches and passes. The game combines elements of soccer, basketball, and American football, and is known for its fast-paced, high-scoring gameplay.
The game is played by two teams with seven players on each side. The objective is to score points by catching the disc in the opposing team’s end zone. The game starts with a throw-off from one team to the other, and from then on, the play continues until a team scores a point or the disc is turned over.
Players move the disc up the field by passing it to teammates. They cannot run with the disc and can only take a maximum of ten seconds to pass it to another player. If the disc hits the ground, goes out of bounds or is intercepted by the other team, possession changes hands, and the opposing team begins play from where the disc was picked up. The game continues in this manner until one team reaches the predetermined score limit, or the time runs out.
The rules of Ultimate Frisbee are simple and easy to learn, making it a great sport for people of all ages and skill levels. One of the most important aspects of Ultimate is “The Spirit of the Game,” which emphasizes sportsmanship and fair play. Players are expected to play with honesty, respect, and self-control. This means that disputes are often resolved by players themselves, without the need for referees.
