At the most southern point of Playa de Las Canteras, right next to Playa La Cicer (the surf beach), you’ll find the Auditorio Alfredo Kraus. It might remind you of a lighthouse, which is exactly how the Spanish architect Óscar Tusquets designed it; the auditorio is there to protect the beach of Las Canteras.
It was built between 1993 and 1997 in honour of the great Alfredo Kraus (1927 – 1999) a tenor who was born in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
Every year the annual Gran Canaria International Film Festival and the Canary Islands Music Festival are being hosted at the Auditorio, along with many other exhibitions, conferences, concerts and more.
The auditorio is also the headquarter of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Gran Canaria. I’ve been to several concerts of them and I recommend going to one of their concerts.
Tickets can be bought easily online and you don’t need a NIE or a Spanish bank account to get tickets. If you want to buy tickets in person, you can simply go to the little office in front of the auditorio (next to the stairs).
In my experience, prices for the different concerts and shows are very affordable and it’s definitely worth visiting at least once during your stay in Gran Canaria.
