The Slack channels explained

You can join Slack here! Access to the digital nomads Slack group in Las Palmas by Live it up, Las Palmas will be your most valuable asset while being on the island. The remote work community in Gran Canaria is growing every day! The Slack group is the biggest social network for every digital nomad, remote worker, expat and local entrepreneur on the island to connect, ask all your questions, join events and find like-minded people.

Once you’ve joined, you’ll find a lot of channels! The reason the community is divided into different channels, is to keep each subject organized. This way, it’s easier to find an older post.

0-invite-link_group-rules_discounts

This channel is a read only channel, members have no rights to post here. It’s important to read the message in this channel, though, since it contains important links and the community rules. One of the most critical rules is that you can not post the same message in more than one channel. In this channel you also find the invite link to share with others, the link to my BuyMeACoffee page and more.

the-south

Help! My post fits more than one channel, what do I do now?

The first thing to remember is: duplicate posts are not allowed. The first time you’ll get away with a warning, the second time you will be removed from the community. So how do you find the best channel?

Let’s go with some examples that we’ve seen in the past:

I am organizing a social meetup in Maspalomas

The only right channel is the-south. Why? Because there’s only a very small community in the south, so every event that’s happening there, should be posted there. The majority of the community lives in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, so it doesn’t make sense to post in social_free-meetups-dinners-drinks.

I need a doctor for my child

The best channel to ask this in is kids-families. Simply because people with children are your best chance to find a good recommendation. Also, posting it in kids-families will help other families when they are looking for a doctor for their child, later in time.

I am offering surf lessons with a yoga cooldown

The main thing you are offering is a surf lesson, so it should be posted in sports. Even though there is yoga mentioned as well, the main activity is surfing, so you can not post this in yoga_meditation_mindfulness.

I am organizing a fun hike, but it’s not free to join

The main activity is a hike, so this has to be posted in hiking. You might think it’s fits better in social_paid-events, but the main focus is hiking, not socializing.

Is acroyoga considered yoga or sports?

This is a difficult one, so it’s up to you to post in either sports or yoga_meditation_mindfulness. Just make sure you pick one and don’t post in both channels!

As you can see, it’s important to decide what the most important message of your post is, and then only post in that channel. Try not to use the when-no-other-channel-fits-your-post! Because in most cases, there definitely IS a channel that fits your post!
