Welcome to the weekly community meetup for digital nomads, expats, local entrepreneurs, and remote workers! We gather every Tuesday at Bar San Remo in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria for an evening of networking and socializing. Whether you’re new to the area or a longtime resident, our meetup is a great opportunity to meet like-minded people and make new friends. In this FAQ, we’ll answer some common questions about the event to help you get the most out of your experience.
Who is welcome to attend the community meetup?
The event is open to digital nomads, expats, local professionals, immigrants, and remote workers. Tourists, students, and other interested people are also welcome to socialize, although the community is focused on professionals.
When and where does the meetup take place?
The meetup takes place every Tuesday at Bar San Remo, which is located at Calle Secretario Artiles 42, 35007 Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The event starts at 8PM and ends when the bar closes at 2AM. The terrace has to close at midnight, but there are always people staying till 2AM, so don’t be scared to show up late(r).
Is there a cost to attend the meetup?
There is no cost to attend the meetup, but you’ll need to purchase your own drinks at the bar. You pay for your drink when you order to prevent any mistakes or forgotten bills, which makes things easier for both the bar and for you. You can pay with cash or card.
How many people (can) attend the meetup?
The terrace has 16 seats available, but if they are filled, newcomers can go inside, and the event will take over the entire bar. In Winter it is high season and it gets incredibly busy.
i want to join the group outside, but the chairs are all taken. What do i do?
First: Please do NOT take chairs from the neighbouring restaurants! This is not just disrespectul towards the other venues, you are also putting Bar San Remo at risk of a high fine. Every venue has a maximum capacity for chairs and Bar San Remo is limited to 16 chairs outside. If the police finds a 17th chair at the terrace, they will fine the bar with a very steep fine. The bar has already received its final warning, so please respect this rule.
So what to do? You can still be outside (untill it gets to crowded), but please put your drink on the table. Public drinking is not allowed.
Are there any age restrictions for attending the event?
The event is taking place at a bar, where it gets quite busy. Children are not allowed to enter the bar. Join us at Mazu Street on Wednesday’s for our other weekly community meetup, where you can bring your little ones!
Can I bring my dog?
You can bring your dog to the terrace, but unfortunately you can not bring your dog inside the bar, for safety reason. Join us at Mazu Street on Wednesday’s, for our other weekly community meetup, which is dog-friendly.
What is the format of the meetup?
There’s no guided conversation, and no forced or forbidden subjects. It’s a full social event, to meet new and like-minded people. The event starts off quite calm and is perfect for newcomers to chat. As the night goes on, it gets busier and harder to have a conversation. It’s recommended for newcomers to come at 8PM to get the most out of the event. The host usually leaves around 10PM.
What should I expect at the meetup?
You can expect to meet other like-minded people, network, and have a good time in a casual setting. It’s a great opportunity to make new friends, connect with potential business partners, or just unwind after a long day of work.
How do I RSVP for the meetup?
There’s no need to RSVP for the meetup. Just show up at Bar San Remo at 8PM on Tuesday, and the host will be there to welcome you.
