What is Spain’s Digital Nomad Visa?
Spain’s digital nomad visa is a travel authorization that allows non-EU citizens to live and work in Spain legally. Generally, a digital nomad visa is granted to remote workers who work independently of their location.
Spain’s digital nomad visa has a duration of 12 months, with the option to apply for a residence permit, which can be renewed to stay a total of five years if the applicant continues to meet the requirements. After five years of legal residence in Spain, permanent residency can be applied for.
What Are The Requirements For Applying For Spain’s Digital Nomad Visa?
To apply for Spain’s digital nomad visa, you must meet the following requirements:
- Be a non-EU citizen.
- Work for companies outside of Spain; income from Spanish clients cannot exceed 20% of your total income.
- Have a clean criminal record.
- Have medical insurance covering all of Spain.
- If working for a foreign company, provide evidence of at least three months of work with them.
- If self-employed, work for at least one client for at least three months.
- Have not been a resident in Spain in the last five years.
- Demonstrate an income of at least €2.160 per month.
What Benefits Does Spain’s Digital Nomad Visa Offer?
With Spain’s digital nomad visa, you can enjoy many benefits while working as a digital nomad in Spain:
- Digital Nomad Tax Regime: During the first four years of residence in Spain, digital nomads will pay a 15% tax instead of the standard 24%.
- Travel opportunities: With Spain’s digital nomad visa, you can travel visa-free to other Schengen countries.
- Right to reside in Spain for five years: With a digital nomad visa, you can stay for up to one year. Afterward, you can apply for a three-year residence permit and renew it for two more years. Finally, after spending five years in the country, you can apply for permanent residency.
- Family members can accompany you: Under the digital nomad visa regime, family members such as spouse, partner, or children under 18 can accompany you to Spain. If you decide to bring older children or parents, you must prove that you will financially support them. Visa applications for family members should be submitted simultaneously (and require a higher minimum monthly income).
