If you are looking for outdoor calisthenics options in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, you have several choices depending on your preferences and needs. In this article, I will highlight the different options and their pros and cons.
Parque Romano
One of the most popular places for calisthenics enthusiasts is Parque Romano, where you can find a large BarManiaPro park with various pull-up bars, rings, parallel bars, monkey bars, and more. There is also a section with some public weight machines, such as chest press, leg press, and squat rack. However, the condition of these machines is not very good and they may not be suitable for heavy lifting. Parque Romano is also a great spot for handstands and other floor exercises, as there is a lot of flat space and grassy areas. The park is usually busy in the afternoon and evening, so you can also meet other people who share your passion for calisthenics.
In Parque Romano in the afternoon / evening there is always quite a lot of calisthenics training going on. From roughly 6pm on or something like that, it’s usually quite busy.
El Rincón & Near The Auditorio Alfredo Kraus
Another option is to go to the parks near the Auditorio Alfredo Kraus, which is located next to Playa La Cicer. There are two outdoor gyms with pull-up bars, one in front of the auditorium and one behind it. The one in front has wooden bars that are thinner and easier to grip, while the one behind has metal bars that are thicker and more slippery. The one behind also has a better view of the ocean and the beach, which can be very motivating. For handstands and other floor exercises, you can go to the park behind the auditorium (El Rincon), where there is an astroturf spot and a grassy spot under the palm trees.
There are two outdoor gyms next to the Alfred Kraus Auditorio. The one behind is better in my opinion but the bars are thicker and made of metal and more slippery. The view is unbeatable though.
The advantage of these parks is that they are close to the beach, so you can also enjoy a swim or a surf after your workout. The downside is that they are smaller than Parque Romano and they do not have any weight machines or other equipment.
There’s also another parks, further away from the popular area of Las Canteras. We have received no feedback yet from community members about this calisthenics park :
Parque Calistenia (Parque Juan Pablo II)
If you like outdoor exercise, an interesting option is to visit the Juan Pablo II Park, a calisthenics park located in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The park has different elements such as bars, rings, benches and stairs that allow you to perform a wide variety of exercises and routines adapted to your level and goals. The park is open 24 hours a day and is free. If you want to know more about the park, you can visit the website, where you will find detailed information about its location, equipment, ratings and photos.
