If you use Strava, you can follow local folks in the app and see where they are usually go. This helped me find some good tracks when I came here.
Avenida Marítima: A 10k Journey
On the opposite side of Playa de Las Canteras, along by the marnina there’s a large footpath (Avenida Marítima) that runs along beside the bicycle track. It’s the other side of the road opposite Parque Romano. It runs south for quite a distance. I find it good to run on as there’s lots of space and fewer people getting in your way like on the Paseo de Las Canteras.
Starting at the Mercado del Puerto, this 10k loop takes you to San Telmo along the harbourside. The Avenida Marítima provides a refreshing sea breeze and stunning ocean views, making the 5k stretch to San Telmo and back an invigorating experience for runners.
If you want to run 5k only, just turn around halfway.
The Confital Challenge: A Versatile 10k to 15k Loop
For those seeking a more varied terrain, the route from La Puntilla to El Confital and the military base presents a 6.5 km back-and-forth challenge. By adding an extra loop between El Confital and the base, runners can extend their journey to a full 10k. For an even longer run, combining this with the Paseo Las Canteras, a beautiful beach promenade, adds approximately 6 km. If you’re up for a 15k or more, continue past the Auditorio along the GC-2 for an additional 5 km return. However, it’s advisable to embark on this path early in the morning to avoid the crowds and fully enjoy the tranquility of the seaside.
Community Feedback
Runners who have explored these routes offer some valuable insights. Some find the Avenida Marítima less appealing due to its proximity to a busy road, suggesting that the experience improves further along the path. Others note that the Paseo Las Canteras is best enjoyed before 9 am, as it becomes lively and crowded later in the day.
Running Tracks In Las Palmas de Gran Canaria
https://maps.app.goo.gl/QoRPybhRmUqRQsrp8 I coincidentally came by this place today, and it seemed completely open and looked like you could just run there anytime. Its called Rocodromo.
Check out Estadio Insular
Sadly the infrastructure is very poor, unless something changed this year. The only nearby track is here https://maps.app.goo.gl/JTe8RB2e4vik6P4XA but I have no idea whether it’s paid of free. Parque Romano is the best spot in the city for a proper training.
There’s a running track here, Ciudad Deportiva (Google Maps link) or Parque Romano (Google Maps link) but that’s not exactly a running trail.
For asphalt/track training, I struggled last year to find the right place, so I just kept running around the city. The benefit is that you will know all zones of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria like no one else.
I run on Las Canteras (both beach and boulevard). I’ve also found Parque Romano with a 1 km long circuit, but the track looks multipurpose, and I am afraid there’ll be a lot of people with dogs or walking / standing. There’s also Ciudad Deportiva.
