Salsa and Bachata are two popular Latin American dance styles that have become increasingly popular around the world and are incredibly popular in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria!

I take classes at Clave y Tacón, close to las Canteras. You can find a number on the website and text her in WhatsApp and ask to try it out for one day and see if you like it. They have basic and intermediate classes two times a week, Salsa and Bachata. You pay per month, but even is you stay fewer weeks and pay for the whole month, I think it’s still cheap and worth it. Its really fun.

Salsa & Bachata Classes in Gran Canaria

Salsa, which originated in Cuba in the early 20th century, is a lively and energetic dance that is characterized by its fast-paced, syncopated rhythms and sharp, lively movements. The dance is typically performed to salsa music, which is a fusion of African rhythms, Cuban son, and other Latin American styles. Salsa is typically danced in a closed position, with partners facing each other and holding each other close.

PasaAPaso, AquiSeBaila and Clave y Tacón are the most popular dance schools.

Bachata, on the other hand, is a slower-paced dance that originated in the Dominican Republic in the 1960s. Bachata music is characterized by its romantic, melodic rhythms and is typically danced in a more open position, with partners facing each other but maintaining a bit more distance than in salsa. The dance is characterized by its sensual, fluid movements and often incorporates elements of hip-hop and contemporary dance.

Yesenia is one of the best dancers on the island, she is head of Dance School Clave and Tacon in Las Canteras area. Definitely recommend for salsa lessons.
