Understanding the Different Colored Bins
The Yellow Bins
The yellow bins are designated for containers such as cans, tins, juice boxes, aerosol sprays, plastic containers and plastic bags. These containers do not need to be cleaned prior to recycling, however, it is important to note that only containers can be placed in these bins. Items such as plastic hangers and children’s toys cannot be recycled in this bin.
The Blue Bins
The blue bins are designated for paper, which includes cardboard, paper, magazines and books. It is important to note that used napkins (servilletas) should not be placed in this bin.
The Green Bins
The green bins are designated for glass containers such as wine and beer bottles. It is important to note that broken glass, kitchenware, and ceramics cannot be placed in this bin. Additionally, the tops of the glass containers must be removed prior to recycling.
The Grey Bins
The grey bins are designated for general waste, also known as “residuo.” It is important to note that even though items cannot be recycled in the colored bins, they may still be able to be recycled in the grey bin.
At the moment of writing this article, there is no bin yet available specifically for organic waste. It should be implemented in the future though.

The grey containers can be found everywhere on the street, but it might be harder to find the yellow, blue and green ones. Just take a little walk in your neighbourhood, because they are never far away! And if you don’t feel like walking around to find them, use Google Maps and go on a virtual tour.
