Everything You Want to Know About our Weekly International Community Meetup at Bar San Remo in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria
Welcome to the weekly community meetup for digital nomads, immigrants, expats, locals, remote workers and everyone else who wants to join us! We meet every Tuesday at Bar San Remo in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria for an evening of networking and socializing. Whether you’re new to the area or a longtime resident, our meetup is a great opportunity to meet like-minded people and make new friends. In this FAQ, we’ll answer some common questions about the event to help you get the most out of your experience.
Is the meetup still happening in 2024?
Yes! This meetup has been going on for years and we never miss a Tuesday. Unless it is Christmas, New Year’s Eve or another mayor holiday, but this will be clearly communicated in our community on Slack.
Who is welcome to attend the community meetup?
The event is open to digital nomads, expats, locals, immigrants, and remote workers. Tourists, students, and other interested people are also welcome to socialize, though the community is focused on professionals.
When and where does the meetup take place?
The meetup takes place every Tuesday at Bar San Remo, which is located at Calle Secretario Artiles 42, 35007 Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The event starts at 8pm and ends when the bar closes at 2AM. The terrace has to close at midnight, but there are always people staying till 2am, so don’t be scared to show up late(r).
Is there a cost to attend the meetup?
There is no cost to attend the meetup, but you’ll need to purchase your own drinks at the bar. Since bills need to be paid, please make sure to buy a drink, to support the bar. You pay for your drink when you order to prevent any mistakes or forgotten bills, which makes things easier for both the bar and for you. You can pay with cash or card.
Is smoking or vaping allowed at the meetup?
No, smoking and vaping are not allowed in the meetup areas, including the terrace. However, you are welcome to step a few meters away from the terrace to smoke or vape without disturbing other guests. This ensures a comfortable and healthy environment for everyone. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
How many people (can) attend the meetup?
The terrace has 16 seats available, but if they are filled, newcomers can go inside, and the event will take over the entire bar. In Winter it is high season and it gets incredibly busy.
I want to join the group outside, but the chairs are all taken. What do I do?
First: Please do NOT take chairs from the neighbouring restaurants! This is not just disrespectul towards the other venues, you are also putting Bar San Remo at risk of a high fine. Every venue has a maximum capacity for chairs and Bar San Remo is limited to 16 chairs outside. If the police finds a 17th chair at the terrace, they will fine the bar with a very steep fine. The bar has already received its final warning, so please respect this rule.
So what to do? You can still be outside (untill it gets too crowded), but please put your drink on the table. Public drinking is not allowed.
If the neighbouring restaurant Moo Moo Burger is open, we can occupy some tables there. But keep in mind that it is not allowed to move their chairs or tables to the terrac of Bar San Remo.
Are there any age restrictions for attending the event?
The event is taking place at a bar, where it gets quite busy. Children are not allowed to enter the bar.
Can I bring my dog?
You can bring your dog to the terrace, but unfortunately you can not bring your dog inside the bar, for safety reasons.
What is the format of the meetup?
There’s no guided conversation, and no forced or forbidden subjects. It’s a full social event, to meet new and like-minded people. The event starts off quite calm and is perfect for newcomers to chat (the first 2-3 hours). As the night goes on, it gets busier and harder to have a conversation, and the meetup goes more into party mode, especially in Winter. It’s recommended for newcomers to come at 8pm to get the most out of the event. The host usually leaves around 10pm.
What should I expect at the meetup?
You can expect to meet other like-minded people, network, and have a good time in a casual setting. It’s a great opportunity to make new friends, connect with potential business partners, or just unwind after a long day of work.
How do I RSVP for the meetup?
There’s no need to RSVP for the meetup. Just show up at Bar San Remo at 8pm on Tuesday, and the host will be there to welcome you.
