Common Problems When Joining Our Slack Community (And How to Fix Them)
If you’re here because you tried to join our Slack community and somehow ended up staring at an empty Slack app wondering where everyone is… you’re not alone. This is by far the most common issue we see.
So let’s clear it up once and for all, without tech jargon, stress, or daily form-checking on our side.
🤔 What Slack Actually Is (And What It Isn’t)
Slack is just a tool, like WhatsApp or Discord. It’s the software we use to host our community conversations.

Slack is the platform we use to run it.
This means:
• Downloading Slack does not automatically give you access to our community
• Slack hosts thousands of separate, private workspaces
• Each community or company has its own invite-only Slack space
Think of Slack like an apartment building. Installing the app gets you into the lobby, but you still need the correct key to enter the right apartment. That key is the invitation link.

To join Live it up, Las Palmas! on Slack, you must sign up via our official invitation system.

That’s it. No shortcuts, no manual searching inside Slack, no guessing.
Slack communities are invite-based. You cannot find us by just downloading Slack and searching for the name.
📩 What Happens After You Sign Up
Once you sign up via Launchpass, the process looks like this:
- You complete your signup on Launchpass
- Slack automatically sends you an email invitation
- You click the link in that email
- You download Slack (desktop or mobile)
- You create your account (or log in with an existing account)
- You’re inside the community
If you skip step 1, the rest will never work.
⚠️ The Most Common Mistake (By Far)
This is where things usually go wrong:
People download the Slack app first, create an account, and then try to “find” the community inside Slack.
Unfortunately, Slack doesn’t work that way.
Without the invitation link from Launchpass, Slack has no idea you’re supposed to be part of our workspace. So even if you have Slack installed, you will see… nothing.
📬 Didn’t Receive the Slack Email?
If you signed up via Launchpass but didn’t get an email from Slack, do this in order:
- Check your spam or junk folder
- Search your inbox for emails from Slack
- Wait a few minutes and refresh your inbox
About 90 percent of the time, the email is sitting quietly in spam.
🆘 Still Nothing? Here’s What To Do
If you followed all the steps above and still can’t find your Slack invitation, there are two common reasons this happens.
1️⃣ You already signed up in the past
If you joined our Slack community months ago, Launchpass will not let you sign up again using the same email address. This usually means you are already a member, even if you can’t see the community right now.
In that case, try this:

If you’re already a member, Slack will prompt you to log in and you’ll be taken straight into the community.
Important: this link only works if you are already a member of our Slack workspace.
2️⃣ You signed up recently but never received the Slack email
If this is your first time signing up and you didn’t receive an email from Slack:
• Check your spam or junk folder
• Search your inbox for emails from “Slack”
This solves the issue in most cases.
