Back After Summer: San Remo Tuesdays, New Style
Back in June we pressed pause on the weekly San Remo meetups for summer. Now that the break’s over… guess what? They’re back! Just not quite the same as before.
🍹 Same Place, Same Time, Just Less Fuss
Bar San Remo is still saving us tables every Tuesday night from 8pm. You know the drill: outside tables, cold cañas, plenty of room for whoever shows up. The twist? There’s no official host anymore. No one with a clipboard, no welcome speech, no “are you new here?” icebreakers. It’s a simple, open invitation. Come when you can, leave when you like.
👋 Why the Change?
These Tuesday meetups first started back in 2019 at Imaginario (and on a Wednesday), before moving to San Remo in 2021. Alongside those, I’ve hosted countless other community events since 2018 — sometimes even two or three a week. After 6.5+ years of organising and hosting community meetups, I had to admit it: I just don’t have the energy to keep being the weekly host.
I did toy with the idea of “guest hosts,” but in reality only a few people were willing to help occasionally — not every week, or even once a month. And honestly, I don’t want to spend my time chasing volunteers and drawing up schedules. So it came down to two choices: pull the plug completely, or keep things going in a lighter way. Easy call: the meetups live on, just without a host.
🍻 How It Works Now
Think of it as a standing Tuesday date with the community. The bar knows to expect us, the tables are waiting, and whoever turns up, turns up. If you’re going, it helps to drop a quick note in Slack so others know they won’t be the only one joining. Beyond that, it’s as casual as it gets.
📍 Quick Recap
- Where: Bar San Remo (Calle Secretario Artiles 42, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria)
- When: Tuesdays, 8pm onwards
- What to expect: drinks, chats, and the best people
- What’s new: no official host — just show up and join in
✨ See You Tuesday?
The tradition continues, just with a lighter touch. So if you’re in the mood for a drink and some company, swing by San Remo. The tables are saved, the cañas are cold, and you might just end up staying for three instead of one.
