Guaguas Global – Travel across the island

For transport around the island you can use the Guaguas Global. These are the blue/green buses driving around. They will take you anywhere outside of Las Palmas.

You can pay with debit card, credit card or cash. Make sure to pay with a small note or coins, since the busdrivers usually don’t have a lot of change. If you are planning to take the bus occasionally, it’s best to pay per trip.

Once you board the bus, tell the busdriver where you want to get off the bus so he can charge you accordingly. If you want to go to Maspalomas, be specific about the stop/neighbourhood. There are 8 stops in Maspalomas and there’s a price difference between these stops. If you are going south for a day at the beach, tell the busdriver you need a ticket to Playa del Ingles. If you want to go to Meloneras, tell the busdriver you want to go to Faro de Maspalomas.

Most buses have USB charging outlets these days so you can charge your phone on the road. The AC can be up pretty high (or low, anyway, it can get chilly) so it’s a good idea to bring a scarf or a jacket on the bus.

All in all, the buses are pretty good and reliable! I usually plan my trip via Google Maps and I haven’t been disappointed so far.

Here are some of the most popular buses to go to the airport or to the south (from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria).
