Padel, a sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and squash, is quickly gaining popularity globally. Its compact court, low walls, and fast-paced gameplay make it a unique and exciting experience for players of all skill levels. In this article, we’ll dive into the world of padel and explore what makes it such a thrilling sport.

Please note that these are answers and recommendations from community members and their personal experiences. Answers can be slightly edited for clarity.

The basics of padel

Padel is played with two players on a court that measures 20×10 meters, using a low net of 1.07 meters. The walls of the court are made of glass or transparent materials and stand 1.5 meters tall, providing players with an extra dimension to the sport. The rules of padel are similar to tennis but with a few important differences, such as the “let” and “no-let” rules. These rules, along with the smaller court size and lower walls, create a fast-paced and challenging game that requires speed, agility, and endurance.

Strategic and tactical gameplay

One of the key features of padel is the use of walls in the game. The walls provide an extra dimension to the sport, allowing for shots that would be impossible in tennis. Players can use the walls to their advantage by hitting angled shots and playing off the rebound. This makes padel a much more strategic and tactical sport than tennis. Players must be able to quickly cover the court and hit shots with power and accuracy, making for an intense and physically demanding game.

The padel courts at El Muelle are ok but a bit sandy. I only played there and in La Azotea and the courts at La Azotea are much better in my opinion.

La Azotea: Elevated Padel Excellence with Rooftop Views

La Azotea Padel Center, perched atop a building and true to its name, offers an impressive range of courts where padel enthusiasts can engage in lively matches while relishing captivating urban panoramas. The court quality is exceptional, and the attentive service from staff members like Aaron and Oscar enhances the overall experience. However, improvements are needed in certain areas. Access via stairs might inconvenience those with mobility concerns, and the men’s changing room requires modernization and better upkeep. Despite these minor issues, La Azotea’s recently renovated courts and competitive pricing make it a prime choice for padel aficionados seeking a top-tier experience in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

At La Azotea there are three amazing coaches, Reino, Señorán and Ruben. They are active players so it’s not that easy to book lessons with them, though.
