I’m excited to share with you all about the digital nomad community on Gran Canaria, specifically in the capital city of Las Palmas. As the founder of the Live it up, Las Palmas! community, I’m thrilled to say that we are now over 7,000 members strong (as of April 2023) and growing fast!
Joining our community means access to a wealth of knowledge, resources, and most importantly, like-minded people who are all working remotely or living the digital nomad lifestyle. We’ve created a supportive and active community that will help you settle in and make the most of your time on the island.
Here are some key details about our digital nomad community in Gran Canaria that you should know:
The majority of our community is located in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria
While there are digital nomads and remote workers spread across the island, the majority of our community is based in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. This makes it easy to connect with others, attend events, and share experiences about living and working in the city.
Growing communities in Agaete and Maspalomas
The digital nomad community in Gran Canaria has continued to grow and expand beyond Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. While the fast majority of our 7,000+ members are still located in the capital city, we are excited to see small communities forming in other areas of the island, such as Agaete and Maspalomas.
In Agaete, located on the northwest coast of Gran Canaria, a small but growing community of digital nomads and remote workers has formed. With its stunning natural landscapes and slower pace of life, Agaete provides a peaceful and inspiring environment for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life.
Meanwhile, in Maspalomas, located in the south of the island, more and more digital nomads are discovering the benefits of living and working in this popular tourist destination. With its warm climate, beautiful beaches, and lively atmosphere, Maspalomas offers a unique blend of relaxation and productivity for those seeking a digital nomad lifestyle.
For both locations, we have a dedicated channel in Slack to make it easy to connect with digital nomads in these areas.
Join the digital nomads Gran Canaria Slack group
The best way to connect with our community is by joining our digital nomad Slack group. It’s the biggest social network for every digital nomad, remote worker, expat, and local entrepreneur on the island to connect, ask questions, join events, and find like-minded people. Our group is actively monitored, and all questions are answered as soon as possible by community members and myself.
Weekly meetups and events
It’s never boring in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria with lots of spontaneous, one-off, and recurring events and meetups! I host two weekly meetups that are perfect for newcomers:
- Tuesday at 8PM – we have our weekly social meetup at Bar San Remo. This is the biggest event for socializing and the best introduction to the community (more info here).
- Wednesday at 7PM – it’s Funky Tacos with delicious Mexican food and custom-made cocktails at Mazu Street (Calle Lepanto). It’s a 100% social event, but this time with food and cocktails! Different menu every week (more info here).
Our community also hosts a variety of subgroups, including hiking, yoga, language exchanges, and sports. This makes it easy to find what you’re looking for and connect with others who share similar interests. Check all available channels in this article.
